When it comes to waking up in Fallout New Vegas, it was one sleep you didn't exactly expect to wake up from. Your delivery was unexpected interrupted by some people who wanted that poker chip you were carrying. You were shot, then dumped in a shallow grave. Not a great way to end a delivery.

When you come to, you find yourself in the care of Doc Mitchell, a kindly old man who hails from Vault 21. He will tell you that you were brought there by a Securitron, Victor. He will now ask you a series of questions, and show you some Rorschach paintings. To get a fix on your kind of personality. The game will then assign 3 Tags on skills based on your answers. There are honestly no right answers, so answer like how you want your character to respond.

If you have particular skills tagged, you will receive presents from the good doctor:
Guns – 9mm Pistol
Energy Weapons – Laser Pistol
Explosives – Dynamite
If none of those were tagged, you will receive a 9mm Pistol
Melee – Straight Razor and 9mm Pistol
Unarmed – Boxing Gloves and 9mm Pistol

For your trouble, you will receive:
Delivery Order, Bobby Pins x6, Stimpaks x4, Pipboy 3000 and Vault 21 Jumpsuit

Before you part company from the Doctor, he will suggest you go help Sunny Smiles, who is in the local saloon so you can learn about fending for yourself in the Desert. It is suggested to do this so you can get all the benefits of this town (and begin establishing a reputation) and get some good starting equipment before you start into the next Main Quest, “They Went That-A-Way”.

Before you actually leave the Doc's house, take some time and look around as you can find a number of goodies in it.
