This area contains tons of Fragments that require very little effort on your part to obtain. For this reason, Yaschas Massif 100AF makes for a great spot to go and relax after a particularly arduous series of boss battles or other such side quests. Seek out the various rubies in the area and speak to them to find the Fragments.
The first of the seven Fragments located in this area is the Helmwige’s Nightshade Fragment. This is the first of the side quests that you should take on, as completing it will unlock many of the following side quests for your party to accept. You will have to find another of the glowing rubies with speech bubbles above their heads to take it. Go to the Paddraean Archaeopolis area to find the ruby and begin the side quest. Run to the dead end to the right of the Pass of Paddra area and use Moogle Hunt to find a hidden chest. Open the chest to collect the Picture Frame, the item that the ruby was asking you for. Return the Picture Frame to the ruby to receive the Helmwige’s Nightshade Fragment and 500 experience points in return for your efforts.
The next Fragment is the Siegrune’s Spiritbloom Fragment. You will have to have completed the previous quest to unlock this one. Go to the Pass of Paddra area and speak with the ruby with a speech bubble over it. You can find it sitting right next to one of the red, feral Chocobos. Head to the Paddraean Archaeopolis area after obtaining the quest and walk into the Command Center. You will find an invisible chest in the middle of the area. Use Moogle Hunt to reveal it, and then loot the Bulb of Hope from inside. Return to the ruby to obtain the Siegrune’s Spiritbloom Fragment and 500 experience points.
The third Fragment is the Schwertleite’s Flower Fragment. As usual, you will have had to have completed the previous quests to unlock this one. Go again into the Pass of Paddra area, but speak with a different ruby. This ruby is located in the southeast of the Pass, to the north of the Gate. The ruby will ask you to collect the Comm Device item. In order to find the Comm Device, you will have to find Chocolina and look into the pile of rubble just under her. Use Moogle Hunt to reveal the hidden chest, loot it, and return the contents to the ruby. The ruby will hand over the Schwertleite’s Flower Fragment in return, along with 300 experience points.
The next Fragment is called the Book of Vahlalla Fragment. This is located in the south of the Pass of Paddra area, where a Temporal Rift will block your way. You will have to enter the Rift and solve several puzzles in order to get past. As mentioned in a previous guide, these puzzles are pretty well randomized, so you will have to figure out the solution for yourself. If you want a primer on how these puzzles work, check out the earlier guide “Final Fantasy XIII-2 End-Game Walkthrough Part 14: Yaschas Massif 110AF Part 1.” Once you have completed the puzzles, you will be able to proceed and receive the Book of Valhalla Fragment and 500 experience points.
The next Fragment is the Graviton Core Epsilon. As with the previous Graviton Cores, you should have obtained this already to beat the story. If you are stuck at this part of the story, head to the Pass of Paddra area and use Moogle Hunt to the northwest to reveal the Fragment.
The sixth Fragment in the Yaschas Massif 100AF area is the Rossweisse Skyblossom Fragment. You will have to have completed the Helmwige’s Nightshade, Siegrune’s Spiritbloom and Schwertleite’s Flower side quests in order to unlock this quest. Once you have completed the aforementioned quests, head over to the ruby in the northwest of the Pass of Paddra area. From here, you will have to go to the Paddraean Archaeopolis area to find the Sealed Tablet. A chest can be found at the base of the ramp that leads to the giant stone head. Loot it to obtain the necessary item. Return the Sealed Tablet to the rose in exchange for the Rossweisse Skyblossom Fragment and 500 experience points. Completing this quest will also mark the appearance of a new waypoint in the Paddraean Archaeopolis area, which will lead you to a Temporal Rift.
You will have to enter this Temporal Rift in order to begin the next quest and obtain the last Fragment. This final Fragment is called the Book of Shambala Fragment. Go into the Temporal Rift and you will be transported to another Hands of Time puzzle. Again, there is no concrete strategy for defeating one of these puzzles. It’s all about timing, counting, and a little bit of luck. Completing the puzzle will get you the Book of Shambala Fragment, 500 experience points, and a Wild Artefact. Congratulations, you have now collected all of the Fragments in the Yaschas Massif 100AF area, but there is still more to be done.
Also note that you can find a rare monster in these parts, if you are trying to go for the quest that involves filling out your entire in-game bestiary. This monster is the Deathgaze. It only appears in Distortions, and even then only after you have completed all of the previous side quests in this area. That said, the monster itself is not actually that tough to beat. Deathgaze is highly susceptible to status ailments such as poisoning and Deshell. The Deathgaze will sometimes drop the Gold Bangle item, which is difficult to find. For this reason, it can be fun and easy to farm the Deathgaze for rare items if you have a party that can dish out lots of status ailments.
After defeating Deathgaze and adding him to your in-game bestiary, you should be just about done with Yaschas Massif 110AF. Now head to Sunleth Waterscape 400AF, where you will find several Fragments and side quests awaiting you.
