This quest will begin when you approach the tent at the back of Henselt’s camp after speaking with Dethmold about squelching the rebellion. Here, you will find a father and a son arguing. The son will wish to compete in a tournament, but the father will beg him not to. The son’s opponent, it seems, would be an extremely experienced and extremely deadly man called only the Butcher of Cidaris. After you see the argument, this quest will open up to you. This is one of the two side quests that you must complete in order to progress the story, with the other being In Cervisia Veritas, covered in the next guide. You don’t have to complete both of these missions in order to proceed with the story, but you had might as well considering the fact that you will be bestowed with extra experience for doing so.
After you witness the argument between the father and son, head over to the camp’s cantina. Here you will find the father drinking away his sorrows, apparently incapable of convincing his son not to compete. Speak with him. If you are having trouble finding him, just search or the NPC named Manfred. This will be him. Manfred will tell you what you have already overhead; his son wishes to battle Letande Avet, otherwise known as the Butcher of Cidaris. Offer to help the son, named Sven, in return for a favor. Now you will have to head out and find Sven.
You can find him right outside of the inn, directly to the southwest of the cantina. He will be sparring in hopes of preparing for the duel. Speak with Sven. He will dislike you at first, pegging you as one who is merely doing his father’s bidding. Explain to him exactly how serious the situation is. He still will not relent, but will instead agree to wage a two-on-two battle against the Butcher of Cidaris and his partner, with you being Sven’s partner.
Next, you will have to speak with the NPC named Letande. You can find him directly behind the inn where you talked with Sven. Talk to Letande to arrange a battle. He will be very confident, and will boast that he can best even a Witcher in combat. From here, you can ask him to duel you and Sven in a pairs match. He will, of course, agree. Head back to Sven with the news. The proctor will make the announcement of the duel, and you will appear in the arena. Don’t let all of the enemy’s trash talking get into your head. This pair of goons is actually quite easy to kill. This battle makes for a good opportunity to practice the timing of your parries if you haven’t gotten them down yet. It will be important that you be able to parry attacks later in the game. Kill the Butcher of Cidaris and Letande and meet Manfred at the front gate. Speak with him again to end the quest and reveal information necessary to continue with the Conspiracy Theory quest.
