Several large flat ships come into view over Colony 9, at first seeming as though they are the main attacking force. Soon, the camera view reveals their real purpose- these are some sort of troop carrier, their undersides lined with rows of inert Mechon, waiting to be dropped like some kind of animate, discriminate bomb. Worse yet, as the troop carriers close in and the alert for a Mechon attack sounds, a flier of a different sort comes into view- some kind of a fighter it seems to be, and a bit larger than any of the troop transports.
The Mechon immediately start air-dropping into the colony, though many of them get picked off by the A-A guns, as the citizens of Colony 9 take a few moments to realize quite what is going on and get moving towards the Military District. For many, it is a terrifying few moments too long. The Anti-Air cannon have taken more than a few seconds to get into operation, and the sheer number of Mechon dropping into the colony is far too large for the immense, slow-aiming cannon to destroy all of the mechanical monsters.
With the Mechon running rampant and attacking people in the streets, it quickly becomes apparent that the Defence Force has its hands more than full enough- unfortunate as the strange fighter-mechon stops midair and begins firing on the A-A cannons as well. One of them immediately takes a heavy blow from some kind of beam, immediately out of commission at least for the time. One of the remaining cannon aims and fires at the giant, flying Mechon that the fighter reveals itself as- but the effort proves futile, leaving the Mechon apparently unscathed. Several crimson glowing eyes set eerily into a metallic mask of a face stare out at the world as the huge machine turns its own weapon on another A-A cannon, disabling it as well.
Dunban looks out the window, hearing the commotion outside... and then rises from his bed with the clear motions of a man full of purpose.
It is now that you regain control of the group, high atop a ledge on a cliff suddenly much, much further away from Colony 9 than it was mere moments ago.
Setting aside the idea of Landmark Travel, you can leap from the ledge and land in the West end of the lake, a fortunately near location to where you want to be- Colony 9 itself. On nearing the top of the ridge and the bridge into town, you finally get a first person view of several of the invading Mechon, which appear to be represented this time by lanky-legged walkers, stout crab-things, and little hovering machines like mechanical insects (though these are the size of Skeeters, well over a foot long). Of course, this could not be the whole of it- on arriving outside of Dunban’s house, you are treated to the uncomfortable view of one of the Colony 9 citizens being run down by several walker mechon, who open their strange spear-like arms to grab at him...
...and apparently eat him.
