As you walk through the Bazaar, your hear rumors about how Emperor Hakan threw his entire court out of the city and they are trapped with the rest of the refugees. Leah, standing just outside the arch, tells you how Tyrael and her have learned that while the Iron Wolves were fighting Maghda in the desert, the emperor replaced them with Imperial Guards who bar all from the inner city. Tyrael suspects that the Iron Wolves were sent out to die. Belial has made his move. We must find a way into the city. Leah says that as a child, she explored Caldeum while Uncle Deckard studied here. She can get in through the sewers. Tyrael warns you to be careful, Alcarnus sounds like Maghda's trap. You also overhear a Caldeum Commoner saying Alcarnus is being destroyed by the Coven and people skinned alive.
There are several merchants in this Bazaar, including Squirt the Peddler, Ligo the Miner, and Tilnan the Collector. All of these have weapons and armor, and can do repairs. There is a big buildings, Searing Sands Inn, where you can buy health potions from Sadeir the Innkeeper. It is recommended you keep a supply of at least 10 health potions, preferably 20.
When you approach the three guards, standing on the bridge to the northwest, you hear Captain
Ravan announcing that the Inner City is closed by order of Emperor
Hakan II. They won't let anyone through. The citizens accuse them that
the Imperial Guard would let us die here as opposed to the Iron Wolves
who tried to help them. But the guards don't want to hear about the Iron
Wolves. You cannot get past the guards. There is a locked door to the southwest of the fountains, and a sewer entrance to the southeast. You want to go northeast, past a gate manned with two Caldeum guards. One of them tells you that this gate leads to Alcarus. You will need to follow the long road over the Canyon Bridge and through the Khasim Outpost.
Enter the Sundered Canyon. A checkpoint is created as soon as you go past the gate. You run into an Enchantress on the road. She warns you that Cultists guard these desert roads, and they will say any who pass. She joins your party as a follower. Keep following the trail, and past another gate. You will encounter Sand Wasps and Lacuni Huntress beasts here. If you shoot Defiled Bones that are scattered along the road, you might find some gold, but also encounter undead Bone Warriors. There are also hidden caches, sun bleached corpses, and weapon crates along the way, with more gold and loot.
You reach a dead end, and are suddenly ambushed by Deranged Cultists. Your quest log updates:
Shadows in the Desert
Kill the ambushing cultists.
Kill all the cultists (Who also summon Accursed Hellions against you). Then talk to the Enchantress in Sundered Canyon. She tells you her name is Eirena. She is also looking for someone. She casts a spell to clear the way for you. Some members of the Iron Wolves run towards you, and you need to kill the Lacuni attacking the Iron Wolves. Then, talk to Iron Wold Jarulf. He warns you that the road ahead is dangerous, cultists cast their spells from two desert lairs to disguise the Black Canyon Bridge. The enchantress suggests you head north, to the Howling Plateau. The cultists' magic seems to be emanating from there.
