Torchlight 2 Walkthrough: Warn The Estherians

Torchlight 2 begins with a simple tutorial mission requiring you to warn the nearby Estherian village of the impending danger posed by the evil sorcerer from the opening cutscene. This basically involves running through an enemy-infested gauntlet to reach the Estherian Enclave. You'll have to face off against Ratlins, Warbeasts and Bearmen. These are pretty much the most basic enemies in the game, so even on the hardest of difficulties you shouldn't have to worry too much about your form.

You start this mission by speaking with the large soldier to the left with the ! symbol over his head. Accept this first quest and you will begin Act 1. You will immediately be attacked by a group of Ratlins. You can wade through these enemies with your left click attack pretty easily, but if you ever get overwhelmed you can fend off the rest of the enemies with a simple click of the right click, which activates your special ability. Pop a potion if your health ever gets low.

Follow the path from the introductory town to the end of the level. It will be pretty linear, but be sure to fill out the corners of your map for hidden chests and treasure. You'll also encounter more enemies at the edges of the level. Since they aren't so tough to kill, that just means more experience and loot for you. You will level up pretty soon, so be sure to pop up your skills and character menus to upgrade your stats as quickly as possible. If you encounter a locked chest anywhere in the outskirts of the level, search the nearby enemies for keys. Also be sure to bust open the nearby piles of rocks to find money and other loot and stuff.

You may find a named enemy in this area. These guys are tougher than your average enemy for sure. That said, you can still kill them by managing your special skills, health and mana efficiently. Best of all, when you kill named enemies, you will get tons of experience and sweet loot. Since this will be your first named enemy, he will fall pretty quickly to sustained attacks.

Another random event may occur as you make your way back towards the village. You may encounter a guy with a red caravan on the main path. If you do, speak with him. He will soon fall under attack by a few basic enemies. Protect him from the attacks and speak with him again. You'll get some free items as a reward. Follow the rest of the path and you will soon reach the village and complete the mission.
