The Last Of Us – Crafted Tools (Molotovs, Nail Bomb, Smoke Bomb)
Introduction
While most of the time Ellie and Joel are scavenging whatever they can find to use there are cases where these items can be combined to makes something better. These are your Crafted Tools and they can be a very big thing to have in any number of circumstances. Each of these Crafted Tools has 2 upgrades for it. For the higher difficulty levels they become mandatory to find given the scarcity of Melee weapons and other useful items.
Molotov Cocktail
Requires: Rag and Alcohol
Location: Found on the body of a fallen Firefly soldier in Outskirts at the start of the subway.
Effect: A Molotov burns the ground and those cause in its blast for a time, continuous damage.
Manual 1: (Molotov: Construction) – Hunter City: Found just after meeting Henry and Sam. Look on the counter of the apartment to find the manual. Increases the radius of the Molotov by 1.5 times.
Manual 2: (Molotov: Usage) – On the second floor of the science building, use a Shiv to break into the Lecture Hall. Sitting on the first table inside is the manual. Doubles the radius of the Molotov.
Nail Bomb
Requires: Blade and Explosive
Location: Bill's Town, Bill will give you one.
Effect: A trap that will kill most enemies instantly.
Manual 1: (Nail Bomb: Containment) The Suburbs – The sewers. Just after you deal with the Sound Alarm and get the Shorty Handgun, search the shelves to find this manual. It multiples the range of the Nail Bomb by 1.5.
Manual 2: (Nail Bomb: Shrapnel) Bus Depot – Underground Tunnel. This is found on top of a truck that sits perpendicular to the tunnel. Climb onto the truck to find the manual. It doubles the radius of the Nail Bomb.
Smoke Bomb
Requires: Explosives and Sugar
Location: Pittsburgh, Storage Room after being ambushed.
Effect: Will stun those close to its detonation, blocks line of sight of those inside the smoke.
Manual 1(Smoke: Chemistry) Tommy's Dam – Turbine Control Room. Approach the panel where the third work sits. The manual is on the left-hand side of him.
Manual 2 (Smoke: Shaping) Lakeside Resort – After Joel wakes up, make your way forward and into the second building on the left, the motel room. Cut through the room and turn left into the back alley. Here you will find a storage shed. Open it up to find the manual. This adds 20 seconds onto the time the Smoke Bomb is active.
