House of Wolves, Destiny's second major DLC release, is now less than a month away. Guardians need to be prepared for all the changes and new content that will be coming, so VideoGamer has put together a list of essential things you need to do in order to be ready for its May 19 release.
1. Reach the level cap
With the level cap for Destiny being hoisted to 34 (currently capped at 32) after May 19, it makes sense to ensure that all your characters are at the current cap before that date. Upgrading armour to its maximum can be a laborious process, as it can take a long time to acquire all the materials needed, so make sure you’re prepared and ready to go with a decent inventory of gear for the forthcoming quests and mission content, which will no doubt put up quite a challenge.
2. Max out your weapons
The new DLC will allow you to upgrade all existing Legendary and Exotic weapons to the new thresholds via a new upgrade tier called “Ascend”. It will require a new upgrade material called Etheric Light, which we can assume will take a lot of work to earn once the DLC hits. But before House of Wolves launches it makes sense to have all weapons you wish to push to the new thresholds ready by having them maxed out beforehand.
Of course, you can also swap out weapons to the new DLC items once you unlock them, but it’s always worth keeping your old gear and improving that, considering Bungie has made it possible to make them as good as what’s to come.
3.Join a clan
Joining a Destiny clan makes it much easier to take part in the raids. Raids are one of the most essential parts of the game as they unlock some of the best gear, and teamwork is essential. Teaming up with clan allies for raids, the Crucible and strikes will make your time in Destiny much easier and more enjoyable, too.
If you can find a group of friends to regularly meet up and jump on Destiny raids, getting to the level cap, getting better gear and upgrading it will be much easier. You can only be in one clan at any time, but can join up with as many groups online as you like, so start getting social!
4. Do A LOT of raiding
Raids are hard work, but they also reap great rewards. It’s worth learning how to survive raids, and more importantly, teaming up with the same group of players regularly so you can speed through them quickly. Unfortunately, House of Wolves doesn’t come with its own raid, but getting used to working as a team is still good practice, and these raids are always worth a run.
5. Stack up on Marks and Glimmer
We don’t know what new items and weapons the Tower NPCs will be bringing forth when the new content drops on May 19, so it makes sense to have as many Vanguard and Crucible Marks as well as Glimmer as possible. If there’s a chance to buy a really good item day one using the currencies already available in game, it’s a smart idea to store as much of that cash as possible.
6. Earn reputation everywhere, and be ready to level up
The Tower contains many different vendors (New Monarchy, Dead Orbit, Crota’s Bane etc.) whom you can swear allegiance to and buy items from. All of these vendors will have new items to sell upon the launch of House of Wolves, so make sure you have earned enough reputation with each of them in order to buy these new goodies.
It can take a bit of time to earn rep, especially for all vendors within the Tower, but just make sure you keep adding bounties to your inventory every day, completing the weekly strikes and just playing the game and you’ll soon become notorious among every alliance.
7. Collect as many upgrade materials as possible
Upgrade materials are key to improving your gear in Destiny. Again, what the new guns and armour will require to improve them is unknown, but it can’t hurt to have as much of everything as possible beforehand so you’re prepared to upgrade them the second you have earned enough XP.
8.Stack up on bounties
If you’re thinking about collecting some of the new gear and weapons that will be coming with the DLC, it’s worth collecting and completing some bounties just before the House of Wolves launches, but only turning them in once you’ve acquired new equipment. This way you’ll get a nice EXP boost immediately after equipping it, and will save you some of the early grind.
A day or two before the HOW launch, grab the bounties and complete them, save the XP reward and turn them in once it launches with your shiny new gear equipped. The faster you can upgrade your new trinkets, the faster you can hit the new level cap.
