Company of Heroes featured one of the most prominent tanks of the 2nd World War, the Panther Tank. This Guide about the Panther Tank is meant to be an actual in-game guide for Company of Heroes 2 as it is a short piece of fiction. It was my first experiment with trying to combine creative writing with creating a guide for a video game. You might had seen many of our guides here, and while informative I am trying a new angle on Guide writing, and this is one of these examples. The other can be viewed here.
The Panther tank in Company of Heroes 2 is one of the most powerful tanks in the game. It is the one tank any German commander can order, without the need for special abilities or points. As such it is the most powerful standard tank in the game. However, it is also the most expensive tank, and because of this losing them to well placed enemy ambushes will come back to bite you (or the enemy) very quickly.
As mentioned in this Guide, the Panther is much like the Panzer IV, except better in its primary anti-tank role, although it can also deal with infantry, to a degree. The Soviets do not have an equally strong basic tank, although their SU-85 can cause some decent damage to it, while the T-34 can be used to disable the Panther with its ramming ability.
If you want to learn more about the different German tanks check out our Germans Guide for Company of Heroes 2. Otherwise look below for the Panther-specific Guide. I wrote it as a report from the battle of Kursk, where historically the Panther made its first proper appearance (1943). The Tiger I, one of the most legendary tanks of the 2nd World War, appeared already in 1942, first in Leningrad, then in Africa. I hope you will enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it!
