Every Friday we release Beta Data with a list of all the current alpha and beta events going on. Some of them are more interesting than others. Some of them have us jumping up and down like excited children. And there are even more games that haven’t made it on the list yet but we’re eagerly awaiting the moment they emerge from development into testing. So we asked our writers what games they would most like to get an alpha or beta code for.
Easy as shooting a ‘Nid this one. If I could get an alpha code right now, I’d summarily execute three Guardsmen to get in on Behaviour Interactives Warhammer 40,000 Eternal Crusade.
In the grim darkness of the near future, there will be only war for me. There will be the glorious dakka dakka dakka of the Orks ( never enuf ). There will be the sanity breaking Chaos, the enigmatic Eldar and the swarm of the Tyranids.
Then there will be me. If I can’t have my Necrons, it’ll be up to me to make the Space Marines a shining example of awesome. Unless I get stuck as an Ultrasmurf, then I might have to pledge allegiance to the Craftworld or better yet, Space Wolves.
In short Eternal Crusade is still a long ways off but that doesn’t make me any less excited for it or eager to see it as soon as I can. Any alpha key? That one. Hands down. For the Emperor.
This question is not an easy one. There are tons of different betas that I would love to get my hands on. Although, my favorite game I am looking forward to and have been looking forward to ever since it has been announced a couple years ago as the Blizzard Allstars game, has got to be Heroes of the Storm. If you would have asked me this question several months earlier, I would have easily said Hearthstone, I have literally searched all over the web for a closed beta key, doing all kinds of nasty stuff just to get my hands on one. Alas, I failed, and I had to wait for the open beta near the end of January before I could finally play the damn game. But where was I, oh yes, Heroes of the Storm! An absolutely awesome concept, even more awesome gameplay. The game combines all the famed Blizzard Heroes from all their existing IPs, be it Warcraft, Starcraft or Diablo, and melded them all into one game for our entertainment. Brilliant idea is it not?
MOBAs are one of my favorite genres, having played League of Legends and DotA 2, I can’t wait to see what Blizzards take is on the genre. After seeing some gameplay videos, I don’t think they are going to transcend the MOBA genre, and probably not gonna knock the kings off of their throne (LoL and DotA 2), but what I am certain of is that they’re really putting a lot of effort into this game. Seeing as they are introducing lots of different game modes other than the standard map we are used to with other MOBA games, which is nice to have a fresh look at what the MOBA genre has to offer. And of course, they are adding new champions every now and then with skins to boot, adopting the same business model League of Legends has going for them. Am I excited? Yes, to say the least. It seems like I have to go out on a hunt again for a beta key. Wish me luck!
If I can get early access to a single game, I would have to pick Landmark. I honestly don’t know why I’m so hyped for this title, since I’m not exactly a big fan of Minecraft and other building games. Yeah, I’m one of those people who skipped Sim City, and only played the likes of Black & White to wreak havoc and destroy civilizations. I guess someone has to start somewhere, and Landmark is the place to be. It’s actually a wonder to play games like this with a fresh palette. Like I said, I don’t have much experience with the system, so I’m going to be hell busy if ever I do get early access. What’s more is that the game has a very hefty price for early users (around 59 USD, I think). There’s just something so frustrating about not being able to get in without having to pay. Another reason would be the player montage videos roaming around the net. I just can’t help but worry that some fellow dude out there is ready to build the stuff I’ve been planning to make. I’m still looking to make a full-scale Hyrule Castle (The Legend of Zelda), as well as a huge Frozen throne (WoW) where I can sit down and rot for all eternity. GIMME DEM KEYS!
I’m actually in that strange state of contentment with games. I was really looking forward to The Elder Scrolls Online and now it has been released and I’m sucked into it. I’m also in the Landmark beta so I’m not jumping up and down to get keys for it. All that really leaves me with are games that are still in development. I think the next MMO I’m really jumping up and down to get my hands on is the City of Heroes spiritual successor, City of Titans. I was a huge fan of City of Heroes and I’ve not really been able to find a game to fill the superhero shaped hole in my heart since it closed. With luck City of Titans will be just the game I’m looking for. Unfortunately I have a long wait ahead of me.
So there we have it. None of this week’s writers seem able to agree on one game. But what MMO is it you’d like to get a beta key for? Let us know in the comments below.
