The happiness counter can be found on the left side of your display – a green smiley face means your population is happy and content, while a 100 percent reading on your counter means that your people think that you’re the bee’s knees, and a simply awesome mayor. Now if the happy face isn’t green, that means you’ve got problems.
Your population is not unlike that of a real-life city. That means they crave for the basic needs – clean water, electricity, and low crime rates. To this end, you need to have fire stations and police stations. Listen to what your Sims are saying as well. If someone tells you they’re preparing to join a gang, then maybe you need a police station. And if there’s heavy traffic in your city, they’ll tell you that you need to create better roads. Likewise, your Sims won’t like it if there’s a lot of pollution, or if there aren’t enough ways to keep them amused and entertained.
Above, we told you about police and fire stations. But your citizens need more than that. They’ll be glad to have some hospitals to treat their sick and wounded, and as we mentioned above, electricity and clean water are paramount. But they don’t want raw sewage, because anyone wouldn’t want to be in a city where the streets reek of rotten eggs and assorted garbage. Polluted water, of course, is a no-no in your city.
Some may be tempted to spend their Simoleons, i.e. cash, the moment they get their hands on some. But patience is key in SimCity BuildIt. As we said in this tip, Rome wasn’t built in a day – take your time and don’t rush through things. Oftentimes, the best thing to do is to spend your money wisely and do your best to save. This will be true especially in the early goings when you don’t have a large population and your tax rate isn’t too high.
Everybody has to pay their taxes, and it’s not necessarily a pleasant thing to do in the real world, no matter how content you are. In SimCity BuildIt, happier citizens will pay higher taxes, but you should always keep a balance between their happiness and the percentage of taxation you set in your city.
