In fantasy league play, you can earn chips, or boosts that can give you the edge you need over opposing teams. These chips include All Out Attack, which allows you to play a 2-5-3 formation (two defenders, five midfielders, three attackers), Triple Captain, where your captain gets triple, and not double points, Bench Boost, where your bench players’ points go toward your Gameweek total, and Wildcard, where all your Gameweek transfers are free. You can only play one chip per Gameweek, but these cheats, if you can call it that, can help you make the most out of them.
This works for all chips except Wildcard, and is useful if someone becomes unavailable to play. So if you decided to make Wayne Rooney your Triple Captain, only for him to suffer an injury, you can cancel your chip and use it in a subsequent Gameweek.
If a defender gets injured or suspended (and they do get suspended often), you may want to leave him in your lineup instead of using a transfer and getting docked some points. What you can do here is to use All Out Attack, thus allowing you to make up for his absence with the addition of a midfielder or attacker to your starting eleven.
Taking the current season’s stats into account, you’ve got Bafetimbi Gomis of Swansea as one of the top goalscorers. If nine-tenths of other FPL managers choose him as their captain, you might want to choose someone else, say, the aforementioned Wayne Rooney, who’s having a quiet start to the season. If Manchester United plays a weak team and Rooney is able to explode with a hat trick, then you’ve got a good chance of shooting up the standings, if less than 10 percent of managers picked him as their captain.
This cheat is best used when you’ve got a higher team value and a more solid bench – you wouldn’t want to waste it early on when you’re still trying to find your footing.
Lastly, there’s nothing wrong with eating a points deduction by making a couple of transfers if it’s really necessary. Once you’ve done that, you can then use your Wildcard chip, which will neutralize your points deduction just like that.
