Yes, Crash Lab does say that Crack Attack! requires you to do more than simply create lines, but there are benefits to creating straight-line formations without any spaces in between – that’s going to give you a straight line bonus. You won’t always get those bonuses, which normally add about 2,000 points to your score, so go for that straight line bonus if the time is right.
One area where Crack Attack! doesn’t differ from the usual Match 3 title is the basic premise that you’ll be earning more points with longer chains of eggs. Just be sure you’ve got your moves mapped out ahead of time, because tapping an egg means you cannot deselect it anymore, or undo the previous action. That makes it doubly important to think clearly and decisively before tapping on one of those eggs.
Some levels will come with multiple stages and the boards will be considerably smaller, with more empty spaces. You may also see some striped eggs in there, so be sure to crack them if you seem them on a level, because that can give you a lot of bonus points.
If you’re able to clear the board in just one turn, that’ll give you a 5,000-point board clear bonus, and that’s where the aforementioned striped eggs come into play again. If there are multiple striped eggs on your board, and the board is fairly small, then you’ve got a solid chance of clearing the board in one go and getting a tidy five thousand point bonus.
Once you reach the later levels of Crack Attack!, you’ll encounter ice and diamonds – you have to crack the egg on top of the ice so you can break it, while diamonds have to be dropped to the bottom of the board so you can collect them and fulfill your objectives. In this case, prioritize your objectives rather than the score; don’t go for long chains if it means having a better chance of fulfilling the objectives given you.
