1. Get all three bulbs. For you to make progress in game, you need to collect bulbs while you see that every stage has three bulbs to collect. So the first checkpoint which at the level 10 will requires you to have 15 bulbs so you need to collect them first before you can proceed. Actually you will never find it a big problem as you can use your match to compute, you need only to perfect 5 stages to get 15 bulbs to precede to another level. You are able to come back in previous stages to collect more bulbs so always put that in your mind as an option.
2. Avoid obstacles. In running through levels, you will find noisy obstacles that you can avoid to ensure the sneak bonus. When you hit slop, and then you tap and slide down, your boxtroll will curl into his box and you will begin to gain speed. Basically there will be a ramp or incline of some sort located at the end of trail. Ensure to tap again to uncurl and lunch yourself for better boost. This will let you gain a good air advantage wherein you will see hidden cogs up in the air.
4. Collect power-ups. Do I need to say it? Of course everyone is likely to get power-ups but actually common mistakes is that players never keep their eye from power-ups. Actually there are lots of power-ups floating around the levels that you will easily miss if you are not focusing in getting them. You will see Barrel Buster that will allows your boxtroll to break barrels by running into them. There is also a Funky Wrench which lets your boxtroll disarm a single trap upon landing on and finally the Cog Magnet that will attracts cogs towards your boxtroll under a limited time duration.
5. Know the villain. Actually you will encounter not only obstacles but also villain that will try to stop the boxtrolls. They come into different threat and abilities such as Mr. Pickie that is more tricky. He is armed with nasty net gun that once you’re within his view and he will shoot out a net. You can jump to avoid it but let your timing work for it since you should not do it too early or too late either. Aside from Mr. Pickie, there is also Mr. Gristle as probably the least dangerous from other villains. He stands with his bat and as you closer enough he will try to hit you with his bat. The trick here is to jump over him. And finally, Mr. Trout that carries an old net with him. Upon meeting the specific range with him, he will swipe the net down to catch you, definitely you need to slide to avoid it. An overall strategy is to look forward and watch ahead so you can make a counter measure before getting with their reach.
6. Each Boxtroll has their own abilities. Just like with villains having a different threat to cast upon you, you will also find that boxtrolls have different abilities for you to control. In The Boxtrolls: Slide ‘N’ Sneak, every time you reach a checkpoint, you will unlock a new boxtroll to purchase. You can see them through the shop box button at the top right. You will see that Shoe and Fish are what the two boxtrolls you can start with. As a initial character, they don’t have special abilities compare to other boxtrolls such as:
Sparky – it can passively attracts nearby cogs.
Knickers – It can glide through the air.
Fragile – known to be the most expensive boxtroll in game which can let you do the passive barrel breaker ability.
Oil Can – This can be sneak more easily in game.
Please don’t be confused with boxtrolls you will unlock through different stages. They don’t have special abilities to offer, only a sign of giving your an extra lives since they will play with you through different levels. So upon losing one boxtroll, you will automatically switch to your other boxtrolls but again you are not able to use their special abilities in this form.
