Use More Fingers: Since this game is all about finger-tapping, you really want to use more than one finger so that you can do multiple things at the same time. You want to be using at least two or three fingers so that you can move the dirt and hit all of the things you have to unlock at the same time. While you might be better off in the beginning only using one finger, as you progress and get further into the levels, it will get harder for you to pass the levels without using more fingers on the screen.
Move Time Up 3 Hours: One thing that still is funny is that developers don’t think people know the trick to get around time caps, such as in Where’s My Water? 2 and having to wait for an energy refill. Well, the developers want you to pay so you can continue with the game at that moment, but that is silly, because all you have to do is set your clock ahead 3 hours. If you set your clock ahead 3 hours, you will get a full energy meter and you can continue playing, all without purchasing anything. It’s still amusing that the creators are still trying this when the work around was figured out a long time ago, and it works with basically every game out there with a time limit.
Replay Old Challenges: One thing about Where’s My Water? 2 is that you will need to get a certain amount of ducks to move onto the next level. If you end up not getting all of the ducks, you can go back and replay the old challenges to get the number of ducks you need to continue on, and you can also replay the old stages too. This is one way that you can get all of the ducks you need, even if you miss them during the part of the game you are playing, and it will help you progress through the levels quicker.
When you start the game, you will be quickly taken to the world to meet Swampy, with only a small tutorial telling you that you need to tap the dirt to make it disappear, which then allows the water to flow to Swampy. Swampy is smelly, so you need to get him the water so that he can take a bath, with only finger-tapping required to achieve this. If you tap a duck, it will make a sound, which is pretty cool, and you can tell that it is geared towards younger children. However, one horrible part about this game right off the bat is that there are ads in the game, which end up taking over quickly. You will get past level one in no time, then the ads start coming, and they are there every time you want to click a level or progress in the game. While most of the ads are under 10 seconds, it’s really annoying that you have to hear the advertisement and see it, then click that little “X” to get it to go away. A lot of free games are doing this now, and it’s bad because it takes away from the fun of the game, especially when it’s in between each level or each turn.
Each level will start off with a goal or mission, with it being your job to fulfill that goal before you can move onto the next mission. You will have three ducks you need to collect during the game, although higher levels need more, and you have to collect the ducks in order to unlock the gates to new levels. You will be notified that the vacuum does not unlock until level 5, the dropper does not unlock until level 11, and the absorber doesn’t unlock until level 15. These are some items you can use in the game to help you make it through, although you can purchase this items in-app if you are really wanting to use them right away, but that would basically be a waste of money since they unlock fairly early on in the game itself. You also notice pretty soon into the game that the music is also geared towards the children, because it’s very upbeat and happy music, although it can get annoying quick if you have the sound on very loud. You will find yourself more than likely turning off the sound before level 10 or at least keeping it on very low in the background.
While this game is fun, the more you progress in the game the harder the levels become, and it almost becomes impossible to continue playing without in-app purchases. There comes a point where you feel like you have to purchase items to unlock the levels, with overly-aggressive tactics that is used to almost bully you into it. You will also be bothered with the Facebook connection option, after every level and during the games, so this becomes very irritating, very quickly. If you don’t connect to Facebook or have anything to do with Facebook, you will begin to hate the game for always bringing it up. Basically, the game wants you to share lives and play with friends, but after the millionth time of closing it out, it still comes back.
Between the in-app purchasing aggressiveness, the Facebook popup all the time, and the fact you have to see ads all the time, you are better off going back to the first version of this game. It’s nice that there are over 100 levels in this version, but you are really going to find it hard to stay connected to this game that long, because you will end up quitting the game before level 50, unless you are a very patient person. Due to the aggressive tactics as far as the in-app purchases and Facebook, this game would not be good for a child, because the children would give into the situation, but maybe that is the goal of Disney in terms of bullying children into buying items. Overall, a game that is alright, but within minutes, you will want to put it down for something a little less over-the-top in terms of sales pitches.
Graphics: Graphically, this game gets a 7/10 because while it’s simple, it’s also cute and fun, and you will love seeing the ducks all around. The water and everything moves smoothly down the dirt pathways you made and into the tub for Swampy, and it really is pretty nifty as far as graphics go, although nothing to ride home about. It’s a simple game from Disney that is more about animation and simple color patterns, but that is okay because that was the intent of the game.
Gameplay: The gameplay itself is really cool and easy, with just a finger-tapping motion needed to move the dirt away and get the water to Swampy. It’s really smooth as far as the actual levels go, but then once you beat a level, here comes an ad you have to watch. Sometimes the ad will cause lag or a forced closure of the app, and that is just bad if you are right in the middle of something. Gameplay gets a 5/10 because it is fun and nice, but the over-the-top tactics trying to get you to buy the in-app items really damages the fun you will have playing.
Music: The music isn’t that bad although you will find yourself getting annoyed with the same sounds over and over. Music gets a 5/10 because while it’s nice and enjoyable, listening to it for too long will make you go a little crazy, and you will want to mute your sound. It’s definitely music aimed at children so it’s more theatrical and animated than a lot of other games out there.
Overall: While there are over 100 levels and challenges in this game, which means more variety, you will find yourself done by level 10 or level 20. You will hate the never-ending Facebook connection option appearing and the ads that play every 2 minutes it seems, and it just takes away from what fun this game could be. Then, you add in how basically once you get to a certain point, you almost have to buy the in-app items, it just really takes what could be a really fun game and drags it way down. While this game is aimed for children, the ads and bullying for you to buy things makes it not good for children, and not good for your pocketbook. Maybe it is a game you download to check out, but you will likely uninstall it before the day is over with, but install the first version and it will be a lot better.
