Zombie shooter games have been very popular, especially since The Walking Dead came out. If you are a person who enjoys action and shooter games, killing zombies and surviving in a zombie apocalypse, then CKZ Origins is just the game for you. Play different kind of missions, scavenge for supplies, help out other survives and most importantly, do not get bitten by any of the zombies in this game. CKZ Origins has been developed and successfully released by game developer Glu, who is known for games such as Eternity Warriors and Sniper 3D: Assassin. CKZ Origins is pretty popular among zombie game enthusiasts. The game has been downloaded over one million times with a whopping rating of 4.5 out of 5 on Google Play Store and a 4.5 out of 5 star rating on iOS App Store.
Before you start any kind of mission, you can check out the goals that have been set for you. Goals vary a lot and can be anything from killing a special zombie to collecting several supply crates. Once you complete every goal that has been set, you will earn the premium currency of the game. You will also receive a new set of goals, which will reward you with more premium currency, if you are able to successfully complete them.
Once you have selected a mission from the main menu, you will be able to see what you are supposed to do on that particular mission. You will also see how much in-game cash, glu credits and experience points you will receive. You will also see which kind of weapon or consumable is recommended for said mission. This is very nice because you will be able to prepare yourself better and most likely complete the mission successfully, if you follow the recommendation. Once you have seen your objectives, you can start the mission by tapping on the start mission button at the bottom center of your screen.
You will need to use both of your thumbs in order to play CKZ Origins. With your left thumb, you will be able to walk around the map and with your right thumb, you will be able to aim with your weapon. Once you aim your weapon towards a zombie, your character will shoot automatically. You will be able to reload your weapon by tapping on your weapon at the top right of your screen. There are several different crates in every level, which will either give you some ammunition or consumables.
Consumables can be either different kinds of grenades, boosters or med-kits.
Completing missions successfully will reward you with experience points, which also will make you level up. Leveling up will unlock many more weapons in the in-game store, allowing you to be deadlier against zombies.
There are achievements in CKZ Origins, which you can complete to earn rewards. Completing achievements successfully will award you with in-game currencies or weapons. At the beginning, the achievements will be easy to complete, but they get significantly more difficult, the more you progress through the game. You can also check out your statistics by tapping on the statistics button at the bottom left of your screen. You can see statistics such as the amount of missions that you have successfully completed, amount of survivors rescued, total shots fired and accuracy. There are far more statistics, too many to list here.
CKZ Origins In-game store
There are two different kinds of currencies in CKZ Origins. The first and basic currency is called in-game cash, which you can easily obtain by playing the game, killing zombies and completing levels successfully. The second currency is premium and is called Glu Credits. Obtaining glu credits by playing the game is way more difficult, compared to in-game cash. You can use both the in-game cash and premium glu credits to purchase a lot of items in the in-game store.
The in-game store in CKZ Origins has a total of eight categories, which are called the Handguns, Assault Rifles, Shotguns, Sniper Rifles, Exotic Weapons, Melee Weapons, Consumables and Bank. Each and every weapon has different stats, which means that there are weak weapons and stronger weapons. The stats consist of Damage, Accuracy, Range, Rate of Fire and Max Ammo. The more expensive a weapon is, the better the stats of that particular weapon will be. Perhaps the most important thing about a weapon is its power level. The higher its power level, the better it is at stopping and killing zombies. Many weapons have a level requirement, so you will have to level up before you can purchase and equip them. Many rare and powerful weapons are only purchasable with glu credits.
You can purchase both the in-game cash and glu credits with real money, if you wish to do so. In order to do this, you need to go to the Bank category in the in-game store, and select the amount of cash or credits that you want to purchase. The price for in-game cash starts at $0,99 for the smallest amount of 5000 cash and goes up till $99,99 for the largest amount of 260.000 cash. The price for glu credits starts at $0,99 for the smallest amount of 100 glu credits and goes up till $99,99 for the largest amount of 5200 glu credits. You can earn free glu credits by completing offers through a program called Tapjoy. You either need to download and try out apps/games, fill in surveys or make a purchase, which will award you with an amount of glu credits. The amount of glu credits you will receive, depends on how difficult or time consuming the offer is that you have completed.
When it comes to zombie shooter games, Contract Killer Zombies: Origins is a super fun game, but it requires a lot of gold and cash to get the upgrades and items you need to progress through the game. You can get the cash and gold in the app store, but this will cost you quite a bit of real money, and it really adds up over time. Of course, when you are low on in-game cash, you can always try to complete side-missions, that have nothing to do with the main story. Side missions usually entail that you have to scavenge for supplies or help out other survivors. Completing side missions will award you with a lot of in-game cash, several glu credits and experience points.
If you want to purchase rare and powerful weapons, you will have to spend a lot of glu credits. You can complete offers through Tapjoy, if you want to earn free glu credits, meaning that you do not have to spend a single dime on CKZ Origins. Tapjoy does not always work as promised, but earning free glu credits is much better than spending a lot of dollars on a free-to-play game.
I had already played the other Contract Killer: Zombies games by game developer Glu, so I could already imagine how CKZ Origins would be. I was surprised that the gameplay is different and that you can actually move around in this game. This is nice, because I believe that game developers should always implement new game mechanics and ideas into their games, instead of using the same old ideas over and over again. I was very pleased to see high quality graphics and to hear high quality soundtracks. Both of these made the gameplay very enjoyable and entertaining for me. A very positive aspect about CKZ Origins is that there are different mission types, many purchasable weapons and many different types of special zombies. Progressing through the game will make everything more difficult, and I am a person who likes to be challenged when I am playing a game. Another very positive aspect about CKZ Origins is that there are no playtime limitations, so I could play the game for hours on end, if I wished to do so.
The first and worst negative aspect about CKZ Origins is that there are full screen pop-up advertisements, which show up at times when you do not expect them. I totally understand it when developers of free-to-play games implement advertisements into their game. They need to generate an income for their efforts and time, but they should always think about where they will place the advertisements. Having full screen pop-up advertisements is simply very annoying and obstructive. When you accidently tap on an advertisement, CKZ Origins will minimalize and your browser will start up, redirecting you to a third party advertiser. This is one of the worst ways of placing advertisements and very obstructive to the gameplay. It really turned me off from CKZ Origins, so I am hoping that the developers will fix this.
The second negative aspect about CKZ Origins is the fact that powerful and rare weapons can only be purchased with glu credits, which are difficult to obtain by playing the game. This means that you either have to try to complete offers through Tapjoy or pay with real money to obtain them. Reward programs such as Tapjoy have many problems, the main one being that people do not get paid out, even after completing an offer successfully. There are many complaints on the internet, stating this, but the developers do nothing to fix it. I feel like game developer Glu should implement other kinds of systems, or at least make it easier to obtain glu credits without paying for them. Many players of free-to-play games do not feel like spending any real money on them, or they simply cannot afford to. This means that loyal players of CKZ Origins are getting punished, without getting the opportunity to fully experience the game.
Artwork: I give CKZ Origins a 9/10 for its artwork. The graphics and animations in CKZ Origins are one of the best that I have ever seen in any mobile game. You can easily tell from the beginning of the game, that the developers spend a lot of time designing the artwork off CKZ Origins. This kind of dedication should be praised, because usually developers of mobile games slack off when it comes to the graphics and animations of their games. The graphics might not be high definition, but I believe a games such as CKZ Origins does not need them. Having so many animations, from the main menu map and flashlight, zombies getting mowed down by you and your friends and special zombies running at you, makes the game feel alive and very entertaining. The developers did a very good job combining both the graphics and the animations together, making CKZ Origins very balanced and gorgeous looking.
Music & SFX: I give CKZ Origins an 8/10 for its music and SFX. Just like the artwork of CKZ Origins, there are also very nice soundtracks and sound effects in the game. The soundtracks are of high quality and match the overall theme of the game very well. There are many sound effects in CKZ Origins, from gun shots to zombie growls, making the game feel and sound more realistic. I really like the fact that the soundtracks and sound effects are easy on the ears, which will allow players to concentrate and focus on the gameplay.
Story & Originality: I give CKZ Origins a 7/10 for its story and originality. Game developer Glu has already developed several zombie killer games, which makes CKZ Origins not so original. The difference between CKZ Origins and the other zombie killer games is that CKZ Origins has way more weapons and missions implemented in it. The way you play the game and the controls are different as well, making the game feel more original and fresh. There is no story at the beginning of the gameplay, but in my opinion, CKZ Origins does not need one. You can easily see that there has been a zombie apocalypse, infecting humans and threatening all of mankind.
General Gameplay: I give CKZ Origins an 8/10 for general gameplay. The gameplay of CKZ Origins starts with a nice tutorial, teaching you the basics of the game. You will have to get used to the two-thumb controls, but after playing the game for a while, this will be a piece of cake. Missions usually entail that you have to go from point A to point B, without dying. After playing the game for a while, it will become pretty straightforward, but still fun to play due to the different mission types. The controls are smooth and responsive and the user interface is very nicely designed, matching the overall theme of the game perfectly.
Addictiveness: I give CKZ Origins an 8/10 for addictiveness. It is very refreshing to see that there are still developers out there that care for their players. There are no playtime limitations in CKZ Origins, which means that players can play the game as long as they want, whenever they want. You will not have to wait for your energy bar to refill itself or your lives to regenerate by themselves. Having beautiful graphics and different kinds of missions really enhances the addictiveness of CKZ Origins as well. I really like the fact that there are many different categories of weapons, which you can purchase in the in-game store and use against zombies.
All things considered, I give CKZ Origins an 8/10.
