The game starts when Deemo saves the girl from falling into the ground and with time becomes a friend of her. Deemo features seventeen different music collections/compilations, but only two of them are available for free. Each Collections features songs from different genres and the music grows intense and dark at the end of each compilation. Each soundtrack has three difficulty modes, for example, Easy, Normal, and Hard, and each difficulty mode is further divided into levels and are different for every song, for example, Jumpy star’s Easy mode is at Level 3, while Reflection’s Easy is at Level 1. The only noticeable difference between music compilations, for example, Vol.1A and Vol.1B is their soundtracks, rest is the same which includes the way of playing the game and the user interface.
After selecting a song and difficulty mode, a speed selection prompt will come up. Speed ranges from one to nine, and it changes the time a note takes to appear and fall from the top of the screen to the line. There are two types of notes, Tap and Slide. Tap note has a dark center while slide note has a yellow glowing center. To active Tap note, you just need to tap it when they are on bottom line. Slide notes can be activated by holding and swiping across the screen as notes falls onto the line.
Now what the user has to do is to play the notes for which the game interface gives a very simple way and that is the notes start showering on a horizontal line and each time they fall on that line you have to tap that area of the screen on the bottom line to match note with the song being played in the background. There are combo streaks, charming hits, and accuracy. Players need to achieve sixty-five percent accuracy at the end of the song to complete it, and number of charming hits made and combo streaks completed defines the accuracy. To achieve charming hits, players have to hit notes close to the line, and for combo streaks, players need to make sure that they don’t just hit the note too much early, and if a note is missed and crosses the bottom line both a charming hit and combo streak will be lost.
Whenever a song is completed a tree grows and as the girl fell from sky, this tree will help her to get back to her world. The reason the songs gets intensive towards the end of each collection/compilation is that with every song the tree grows taller and Deemo, the lonely guy, will lose the only person he loved. Game offers variations, tree doesn’t grow continuously, it will stop at twenty meters and then again at fifty meters, and users will find new pianos hidden away in mysterious rooms to keep the tree growing.
To those who listen piano it will be obvious that the music put in this game comprises of masterpieces by artists. For instance when the player unlocks the first level in VOL.1B at ‘easy’ difficulty and slowest speed of the falling notes the three soundtracks that are unlocked are ‘reflection mirror light’ by V.K, ‘Jumpy Star’ by Yuk Cheung ft Jeff Li ft Justine Lu and ‘Wings of Piano’ by V.K. All classically and eternally aesthetic. Deemo has both instrumental and vocal songs with piano being the main instrument in all of them. Piano can also be categorized as one of the theme setters in the game.
Deemo is a socially active game A spanner icon in the right corner of the main screen will lets you to login your twitter and Facebook accounts for the usual sharing of stats and also lets you to synchronize your game data so that you have to lose your progress even after reinstalling game. As free version allows users to play only two out of seventeen music collections, rest can be unlocked for $3.99 per collection, which might be steep but i think they deserve it as licensing soundtracks isn’t cheap. There aren’t any bulking purchasing options available for collections and Developer should offer them with reasonable discount to attract more users.
This review is based upon 2.1 version of Deemo. This rhythm music video game is available on iPhone as well as Androids. At Least Android 4.0 (ice-cream sandwich) or iOS 5.1 is required to run this game. A PlayStation vita version of the game called Deemo-The Last Recital is also available.
Prices of music collections are steep and not everyone can afford them. If you’re one of those who cannot or don’t want to buy it and still want to get hand on those locked music collections then you can use modified version of this game, which is available for Android but I cannot say the same about iOS. To get this version all you have to do is follow these steps:

2) Remove the previous/original version of Deemo.

Literally, I’ve never been in such a deep love with a game. Deemo is one of those games that I keep on opening even when I don’t want to play them just to feel its presence I had been missing. The user interface is unique and mesmerizing. Whole game is interactive, other than playing game, you can visit rooms, touch different objects to know about them and many other features like this.
As we go further and make progress the main menu of the game keeps changing the backgrounds in accordance to the stage of story that we are on. Lots of music tracks and a soulful genre of the game triggers a whole new set of sentimental experience in me. The tracks are all great, gameplay is simple but it feeling like I have achieved something after successfully playing a note.
The game is scientific too in the sense that the notes that the screen displays are always truly positioned as in a real piano keyboard. With each new unlocked soundtrack there comes a cover picture art that relates with its title and in doing all this the developers have kept the artistic touch throughout which just takes the player over. Overall the artwork is unmatchable.
Plugging in headphones and playing the game I got an experience that could really take over any other thing going inside the mind, something that many developers fail to achieve but it is here in Deemo with all its essence. Even at the start there’s a note that says “use headphones for the best experience”, so readers must have got the fact that it is mostly about its musical experience. Although I prefer playing games with fighting genres like shadow fight but this one can occupy almost anyone’s mind. The one thing that keeps you going on is the wish to keep checking out the new tracks that will be unlocked as one proceeds and the developers have made sure that each one is a masterpiece, in addition to this I also found the storyline to be very addictive and at a point it makes you think and get curious about the ending that how will this all end and that is where you have got addicted to the game, ‘Deemo in the bloodstream phase’ I call it.
Although the gameplay looks simple on the paper but the way and the speed with which notes appears takes away that simplicity, and proper synchronization gives the feeling of sitting in front of a real piano. I haven’t played any rhythmic tempo matching game like Deemo. This game is extremely addictable and highly recommended for every type of gamers.

Artwork: I’ll give this game a 9.5/10 for its unique and aesthetic art work. The characters, the backgrounds, the mystical features have definitely taken great imaginative minds to come into existence. Plus the artwork never gets boring as it keeps growing like a movie would grow, same feel but different intensity.
Music & SFX: A very obvious and easy 10/10 for me. The piano soundtracks are awesome and they’re both instrumental and vocal. Sound is of high quality and builds a strong presence even when the game is played without headphones, everyone around sneaks at your mobile screen for once or looks at you and asks what is it, a game or a just a track you have played or compliments the sound. Such is intensity of this game’s music.
Story & Originality: I’ll give Deemo ar 9/10 for its story & originality. Story is simply great because of its mysterious theme, it is true that any hard core novel reader with taste for classics and knowledge of present cinema can imagine something like Deemo to an extent so to some users It might not seem something out of the blue, nevertheless, putting that imagination into the form of a story and setting it as beautifully as in Deemo is something that isn’t easy. This game falls behind slightly in originality because gameplay is familiar with many other tempo-matching games.
General Gameplay: I’ll give this game an 8/10 for its gameplay. Gameplay isn’t as strong as the storyline, artwork, and music. If we remove the three previously mentioned sections from the equation, this game is nothing more than a ‘pop the note when it reaches on the line’ game, but the hollowness in the game play is beautifully covered by story, music, and artwork..
Addictiveness: I’ll give Deemo a 9/10 for the exhilaration and the quality time it gives. Since the time I started playing this game, I became intensively addicted to its music and the story; in itself made me feel quite attached to it. Apart from all this the curiosity for the ending will definitely keep me going till the end.
Overall I’ll give Deemo a 9/10, and this is the highest score that i’ve given in my life.
