If you reach 1000 rads you will die. im sorry that is a wrong answer that answer wasn't even on subject the ears are actually for a perk the hitman or the regulator perk one is when you kill good people there will be an ear in there inventory grab it and take it to the scrapyard and the regulator perk is for killing bad people and it leaves an ear also but you got to go to the regulator shack and sell the ear
