How do you gain your foals trust on Horsez 2 for DS

I figured out that if you go onto the food screen and throw a carrot, apple, or sugar into your foal's pen once every couple of hours or days or somethin' like that 1/2 of a food and 1/2 of a confidence star will go up. (i'm pretty sure, not 100%, though) Hope this helps
