How do you find a painting on Animal Crossing

Occasionally there will be paintings at Nook's shop. If your are a member of Crazy reds furniture shop, there will be paintings almost everyday. But don't buy them!
I bought one on time and tried to donate it to the museum but the Owl said it wasn't the original painting. I tried it again (Just in case) But it still didn't work.
