Why are some games are so addictive

Games allow us to detach from the real world and live in a world where we can imagine ourselves to be someone/something greater than we believe are in reality. In addition to that, the adrenaline highs and the intermittent reward -- a major component of many other addictions -- are reinforcing effects.
