depends not only on your surroundings, but also any objects between the two of you. me and my friend can communicate clearly in our fast food restaurant we work at while I'm up front and while he's in the back of the store (approxiametly 15 ft.) we found when you go outside, material likes bricks and concrete intefere withthe signal a little. but i would say you can communicate about up to 30 or 35 ft. with a good signal. for the best signal, be at least 20 ft from each other
