ive had animal crossing for over a year and i don't think you can get a boyfriend on it sorry.
Aktually, yes you can ^-^. Try sending the dude yooz liek letters w/ presents attached and spend a lot of time with him. Listen in conversations he has with other animals. If the other animal says something like "Have you told so and so yet?" And the boy will probably blush and say no. Then yooz send him a letter sayin ya like him or something. He'll either send one back or tell you or communicate that he likes you to in one way or another. Good luck!
