How do you set up a mega drive
1: Set the Mega Drive on a flat, clean surface.
2: Plug the power adapter's 2 pin AC plug into a wall socket.
3: Insert the black DC plug on the other end of the power adapter into the 9v/DC in port on the back of the Mega Drive.
[NOTE] If you have a Mega Drive Composite AV cable, go to step 4a. If you have a Mega Drive RF unit, go to step 4b.
4a: Connect the DIN plug to the back of the Mega Drive, then attach the yellow, white and red to their respective plugs on the AV In on your TV set. Turn your TV on and change the channel to AV (Also called VCR on some sets). If your TV does not have AV ports, go to step 4b.
4b: Connect the RCA lead (the long, thin cable) from the RF unit onto the RF Out port on the Mega Drive. Disconnect the antenna cable from the Antenna In on the back of your TV (If there is an antenna cable attached to your TV, it may be connected to a top box or VCR instead, this does not matter). Plug the cable from the antenna (If there is one) into the Antenna In port of the RF unit. Plug the TV Out (The short, thick cable) into the Antenna In of your TV. Turn the switch on the RF unit to 'Game' or 'Mega Drive' to play the Mega Drive, and turn the switch back to 'TV' or 'Antenna' to watch TV again. Turn on your TV. Place any working game cartridge into the Mega Drive. Turn on the Mega Drive. You will need to tune the TV to the Mega Drive. Here are some tips on how:
- For newer Digital TVs, set the 'Source' on your TV to 'Analogue TV' (Also called 'ATV' on some sets). Open the TV's menu and go to Manual Tune. Tune the TV to either VHF Channel 0 or VHF Channel 1.
[NOTE: If the Picture is fuzzy, try adjusting the CH switch on your RF unit to either CH0 or CH1. CH1 will work better on most newer TVs while older ones prefer CH0. If you change this switch, you will have to re-tune the TV to the channel you chose. Some RF units may not have this switch]
- For most standard modern analogue TVs, go to 'Menu' and search for the Mega Drive on the VHF band.
- For analogue dial TVs, turn the VHF knob to either '0' or '1', and adjust the fine tuning dial/ring until the picture is clearest (Some dial televisions have a feature called 'AFT' or "Automatic Fine Tuning'. You may have to turn this button on or off to get a clear picture.).
Now that the TV is tuned, turn off the Mega Drive.
5: Plug one or two controllers into the Mega Drive, and attach any other accessories you may have to their respective ports/slots (such as a Mega CD or Multitap)
6: Insert a game cartridge into the cartridge port of your Mega Drive. If you are using a Mega CD, insert an audio disk or Mega CD CD-ROM. Turn on your Mega Drive. Remember to always turn off the Mega Drive before removing or inserting a cartridge.
