Why is Red Dead Redemption called Red Dead Redemption

The story is called Red Dead Redemption because it is on a starry red night that John Marston dies. That is basically why they called it Red Dead but the redemption part is basically what he goes through on the whole journey- battles and everything else- I'm guessing I'm not totally positive so don't count this as your best answer.
