How do computers play chess
The computer looks at millions of possibilities and then calculates a formula to pick the best one. First the computer builds a 'tree' of the different possibilities and assigns a value to each one. Whichever possible move has the highest value the computer moves. The computer also looks at the variables, for example, how the king would be vulnerable and the control of the center of the board.
