Can the heartless disappear in Kingdom Hearts ii

If by disappear, you mean "be somewhere one second, and somewhere else the next," then the answer is yes. However, the chances of a heartless just skipping out on you in the middle of a battle are low, unless you leave the room. Then they all disappear until you move back to a place where they appear.
