How do you cheaply build a gaming computer
The best way to cheaply build a gaming computer is doing the work yourself. This means finding deals for the parts on-line then ordering them all together to get deals on the shipping and handling. Some popular websites for computer parts are tigerdirect.com, newegg.com, and geeks.com.

There are 8 main internal components to a good gaming PC.
1. The Case
2. The Motherboard
3. The CPU/Processor (and fan/heatsync)
4. The Video Card
5. The Power Supply
6. The Hard Drive
7. The Memory/Ram
8. (optional) The CD Drive

The CPU has to be compatible with its fan and the Motherboard chipset. The Motherboard has to support the type of Video card and Ram. The hard drive will most likely be SATA, which is compatible with modern Motherboards, but check to see if it is.

External parts include a monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers headset, etc.

After the parts come in, you need to assemble the computer. Although most motherboard manuals provide explanations on how to build the computer I wouldn't recommend building one without previous experience. If you are not comfortable building it, find a retail computer store nearby that will. Keep yourself static free (static electricity can destroy computer parts) by standing barefoot on a hardwood floor and hold the metal case while assembling the computer. For good protection buy an anti-static wrist strap and possibly an anti-static mat.

Once the computer is built and functioning, you need to format the hard drive and install an operating system.
I do not have experience formatting and installing a Windows Operating System on a blank hard drive. Someone who has should provide an explanation here.

To install Ubuntu on a blank hard drive, download the ISO from their website and make a bootable disk or jump drive from it. Explanations on how to do this can also be found on their website. Insert the disc/drive into your computer and boot to it. Choose to Install Ubuntu and follow the instructions.

The final step is installing the drivers. Ubuntu will notify you to install the Hardware Drivers and give you a list to choose from. Choose the most recent one and activate it.
