What does product key mean

The product key is generally the same thing as a serial number. Both are used to install and use your software and to also identify your software as needed, either by customer service of the company who owns the software and by your computer in the registry. It is used to identify whether the software is pirated or purchased also, as not having a serial number or product key keeps you from installing and using the software.
