If you're Rank 2 or less, the cheapest way to grow bricks is with a Gallery Module Rank 2. Get the blueprint by sending F.Stop Clikzgerald an apple.

Another good way to get red bricks is to trade Max 5 bricks for the Magazine Module Rank 1. You need to subscibe to LEGO Magazine though.

Once you get Rank 2 and have 8 blue bricks, you can buy the Factory Module Rank 2 blueprint on Milmano's page. This grows a not outstanding 15 bricks per day!
