What is a sandbox

Kids' play area Literally, a box filled with sand. It's a popular plaything for young children. A giant wooden 'box' or frame is set on the ground (in a park or playground) and filled with refined sand. Toys are usually included to make it more fun. Often the toys resemble dump trucks or funnels in order to experiment with sand play.

Test mechanism Another usage of the term 'sandbox' is for testing, namely on websites. A sandbox is an area or version of a website where developers and others can test a new feature or product before it is released live to the public.
