How rich are Americans
It depends on location, and who we are talking about. Many people see America as a rich place where everything is "la de da, I live well because I have money." People assume Americans are arrogant, rich snobs who could care less about the rest off the world; but when you talk to one you become under the impression that they are generally poor or are lower middle class. This is true in part to stereotypes. People see America as a place that can accomplish anything with a little money and some military power. The reality is, a lot of what America "does" is not really even up to them. For instance, lots of things the American government does that is stupid or regarded as "narcissistic" so to speak, is the work of politicians, not the people.
America is a Representative Democracy; meaning that we "choose" who the next leader will be. When I say this, people will assume I am talking about the president. In reality, I am referring to Congress, since it is a (little known) fact that congress has more power than the president does. Sure, he controls the military, but when a president refuses to do his duty he agreed to while taking his inauguration, he is impeached.
The reality is that Americans don't have too much choice when it comes down to electing a leader. Sure they may be able to "pick the person", but when they are all corrupt greedy politicians, what choice do you really have? The bottom line is America is not as great a place as people think. People think if you don't like a law or something you can just set out and change it. People think you can just keep whats yours when a 60 year old man hundreds of miles away says its his. America is great, don't get me wrong, but it isn't as much a democracy as people believe.
So to answer your question, a lot of Americans (maybe 50 -60 %) are actually in middle to lower class. Ask any of them, and I'm sure you will hear a similar answer.
