How do you know where the mines are in minesweeper
The squares that you click on should have either numbers or mines in them. The ones with numbers will tell you how many mines are exactly next to that square, in all directions including diagonals. You'll have to guess where the mines are by using numbers from multiple squares to identify where a mine lies.

For example, if you've clicked open this position in a corner:

1|1|_|
1|_|_|
_|_|_|

The middle square definitely has a mine in it, as all those three 1s position a mine there.

1|1|x|
1|X|x|
x|x|_|

The x's represent where a mine could be, and the X represents where the number's guesswork coincides.
