You need to complete the quest 'Perils of Ice Mountain' to make one.


Then after this, you need to get the ores that you need, for example for adamant it is 6 coal ore and 1 adamant ore, then smelt these together to make a bar. After this, use on a anvil with a hammer and choose to make a pickaxe. :)
