How do you unlock Nightcrawler in Marvel Ultimate Alliance

Nightcrawler cannot be unlocked for Marvel: Ultimate Alliance without purchasing the Heroes Pack. If however you have, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance Gold Edition, Nightcrawler should be available by default.
