What does Witchers plough witches come the equinox mean

There's a segment from the video game "The Witcher 2" near the beginning of the game, when the main protagonist is getting tortured&mocked by two prison guards. During their dialogue, the one of the guards says "Folk say they (witchers) plough witches come the equinox". What does this phrase mean?
