After the release of E.T. the extra terrestrial game, Everyone lost faith in the game market because of how terrible it was. Thousands of cartridges were dropped into land fills and it nearly ended home gaming as an idea until Nintendo saved the market with R.O.B., advertising it not as a game but a toy.
