Can you add a xbox user if you use a playstation

Sadly, no.
I believe Sony and Microsoft were at one point discussing a feature to play across consoles with other players. Such as if you had Battlefield on Xbox 360, and your friend had it on PS3, you both could play together in matchmaking.

However, this was years ago, and doesn't seem to ever be happening due to competition between the two.
