What is the point of mermaid world
Hi, I'm TiffanyPhotos and I've been playing Mermaid World for about 3-4 weeks now. I have 9 realms, 6/9 Star Realms, 36/45 Unique Mermaids, one Lounge, 3 Singing Summits, 254K coins, and top out at around 40-70 pearls before I need to use them. Oh, and I haven't spent a dime of any actual money. I started this Question and Answer myself because I have some helpful tips to share. I'm hoping other experienced players will add to this. :)
Use GameTeep (it's a website) when you want to sing for more Mermaids. They have an amazing mermaid guide that tells you which two mermaids will sing together to get a certain mermaid. Just look up the new mermaid you need or want and it will tell you which two will get her. Other players comment underneath with other combinations that worked.

Organize your Trinkets. You will have 5 mermaids that need something but realms can hold 7 trinkets. That means you should have two to three extra trinkets that you can move to other realms where needed. To organize, make the important trinkets small by tapping on them then tapping the minus. Then move them to the far back left of the realm in order of mermaids. Put the two or three extra trinkets in the front next to the treasure chest. Only keep ONE type of each extra trinket in all realms and sell the rest. Here's an example of my extra trinkets in my game, but everyone's will be different:
realm 1: monolith, crown
realm 2: sword, vanity set
realm 3: music stand, famous painting
realm 4: sculpture, chaise lounge
realm 5: flute, gilded table
realm 6: rotary phone, mandolin, ornate gate
realm 7: vase, flower lei
realm 8: grandfather clock, antique chair
realm 9: (still working)

A good tip is to tap the trinket and see how much its realm decor percentage is. If a trinket has 0% realm decor, tap it and move it to a previous realm to help boost the previous realm's percentage. All trinkets lose value the higher you place them. For example, the Monolith is worth 0% in realm 4, but 10% in realm 1.
Warning: As of 5/14/13, the update fixed some of the crashes, but moving trinkets still seems to crash the game. A crash is when the game suddenly turns off and brings you back to the main screen of your device. This is frustrating because it can cause you to lose the last couple minutes of your progress and you could lose a trinket or decor you've been looking for, or even lose a mermaid! Also, scrolling between realms causes crashes a lot for me, too.

Organize your Decor. Simply make all decor as small as possible my tapping it and tapping them then the minus sign. Then tap and drag the decor to the far back right of the realm. This keeps everything in one place and out of the way. Decor is the majority of your realm percentage.
For experienced players: you will find that in realms 7+, the decor the mermaids find is only around 2-3%. If you fill up your realm with this, it will tell you there's no more room and it won't total 100%. You will have to sell the low decor or move it to a lower realm to make room for 5% or more stuff.

Buy a Lounge using pearls. It is helpful to have 5 extra slots to keep extra mermaids in while playing. If I'm waiting for a certain mermaid to arrive, I'll keep a mermaid I don't need in a realm as a placeholder just to collect coins and I'll name her "Lounge" if she needs to stay in the lounge when I'm done with her, or I'll name her "Delete" so I know I don't need her anymore when the new mermaid comes to take her place. It's better to fill a realm with mermaids so they continue to collect coins.
Warning: The Lounge used to crash and you couldn't open it or place mermaids. As of 5/14/13 the update seems to have fixed this.

Only have ONE or TWO of Each Mermaid in your game. Sell the rest. It's possible that some other mermaids will like the same mermaid. You will keep those girls together. But sometimes another mermaid from another realm will want that mermaid too. You will never be able to collect all mermaids, (regular, gilded, or limited edition) if you have 3 of the same mermaid. For example, if you have the Citrine mermaid who likes Aqua, and you get a gilded Citrine who likes Aqua, you can delete the first Citrine and put the gilded one in her place. The gilded mermaids tend to have the same likes as their non-gilded counterparts but they collect more coins per minute.

To answer the question, basically there is no point to Mermaid World, meaning, you really can't win the game. You just collect all the mermaids and all the realms and try to make them happy. When you accomplish this, they all just collect millions of coins and there's nothing more you can buy or do. Just watch a bunch of happy mermaids swim around.
This brings me to my opinion about paying actual money for things in the game like coins and pearls. Pearls are rare to come by. Your mermaids can find 1, 2, 5, or 10. You can watch ads and complete offers to get "free pearls". But this takes your time and money. Leveling up and 3-Star Realms earn you one pearl, but still, you need a ridiculous amount for things that cost pearls. For example, in the store, the limited edition mermaids can cost 499 pearls, mermaids cost between 23-2379 pearls! The Persian rug costs 1078 pearls, randomizing costs 40 each time, and so on. My point is that you need a lot of pearls to progress the game faster. The crazy part is, CrowdStar wants $99 for only 3000!! You could spend those quickly on just Randomizing a mermaid and shortening call times. The big picture is this is a low graphic game with no point that crashes all the time. There are so many mermaids that you run out of room and you can't collect them all because there's only 15 realms. So I can't justify this game being worth $99, $50, or even $10. App games like Draw Something cost only $1 and have MUCH more to offer. I don't really feel bad not paying for a thing in Mermaid World because they make money on the people who advertise. Anyway, I hope this all helped. I'm hoping other experienced players will add to this. :)
