What does it mean to be indicted in dark souls

If you are indicted it means that you invaded a player online and killed them. You're name is placed in the Book of the Guilty by the defeated player by using an Indictment. Which then means players in a certain covenant will invade you when you are human. An Indictment can be bought from the person in the bell tower where you fought the Gargoyles.
