What is the best and most real approach in video games with choices sneaking and thinking your way through or gung ho

Personally, i've found its different with every game, take Halo for example, that is all about runnign in head-first with no question about your characters life, but play Operation Flashpoint and if you try that your guaranteed to end up dead. However with games like Deus Ex; Human Revolution i found that a slow steady pace (With some sneaking) is the best route.
