Is dead island a free roam game

Dead island is a free roaming rpg. that places you in the shoes of one of four playable characters of the players choosing. during the story you have the chance to explore the vast maps available to play in Dead Island. however during some sequences in the main story the player is trapped in certain maps and are only permitted to explore those areas. Also once the story is completed the game ends but you can replay the story from the beginning using the same character, if the player choses.
