Does downloading computer games take up download speed

Downloading anything takes up download speed. For every connection you have your download speed is cut in half, giving each in theory have of the speed.

1000kbs split in 2 500kb each
1000kbs split in 4 250kbs each.

Same speed overall just each file only gets part of it.
