Yes, there is a notable series like this where you can basically simulate real life in a game, it's called The Sims, created by Maxis and published by EA. The first one is quite old now and can probably be bought quite cheaply from most distributors, though the newest one is currently The Sims 3, and is probably the one closest to Real Life as of yet. The Sims 3 is also the only one with functioning cars too I believe.
