What was the video game intended for in when it was first invented

The first video game was created by NASA scientists for small competitions they would have for fun. Basically they would go out and try to build some cool device to impress the others. Some of the scientists figured out how to manipulate on screen pixels with a remote and created a game similar to pong. So in short it was created to entertain bored NASA scientists
