IN World of Warcraft what does it mean when your attack is flashing red

Your attack button flashing red most likely signifies that auto-attack is turned on (you are swinging your sword or axe) but that you are out of range of the target you are attacking. It depends of course on whether you use the standard interface or a customized UI.
