How do you collect high stars in the bonus mode on two player on petz horse club

Well, I didn't have a clue what to do and finally quit playing because it made me so mad I couldn't figure it out! but I clicked on the mouse and there was a little green star thing come up, and when I ran it over the blue stars you have to collect, the star disappeared and I got points. So I'm not certain how I got it, but there should be a little green star if you click the mouse and you slide it over the blue stars and you'll get the points!
