What is and when was the first Japanese video game created
The first Japanese video game was Astro Race; released in 1973
Prior to that the earlier games has been made in the US:
The
Galaxy Game was the earliest known coin-operated video game, which
debuted on the campus of Stanford University in 1971; it did not receive
distribution and was built from scratch on site.
Computer Space
was the first commercially sold arcade game, released by Nutting
Associates; also in 1971. It had a limited production run and was
expensive to reproduce and transport.
The first game to reach
commercial success and wide distribution was Pong; released by Atari Inc
in 1972, they were based in California and eventually became Atari
Corporation in 1984.
Taito and a few other Japanese competitors
produced games in the early to mid 1970's but the first truly successful
Japanese game was Space Invaders (by Taito), released in 1978. This
brought with it the second generation of games and the famous wave of
Arcade releases that followed such as Pac Man and Donkey Kong.
