Is pestilence a carry hero or a gank hero

Pestilence is a clone of Slardar from DotA. He is the best team carry in HoN. Most carries are a little lacking at early game, but Pestilence can get around it as he's got an AoE stun with moderate damage.

Upside is that at lategame, with a good item build, you can shred through weaker INT characters on the opponant's team with ease, and if you're against tanky heroes like Armadon or Moraxus you can build a Daemonic Breastplate or a Shieldbreaker. Stacked with the armor debuff from your ulti you can beat anyone down, and your bash ability is a bonus.

To keep you ganky in the early - mid game try getting a portal key as quick as possible, and then a Shrunken Head. Once the cash flows in, Pestilence will tear apart any enemy team.
