The current best-selling video game console of the generation is the Nintendo DS, followed by the Wii.
Also, it's spelled Consoles.
Also, it is grammatically incorrect to use is for a plural. The correct form would be "What ARE the most popular video game consoles" or "What is the most popular video game console".
Some people would have you believe that XBOX 360 and PS3 are more popular. However, the numbers don't lie.
However, you shouldn't choose a console based on popularity.
The Xbox and PS3 are more for people who prefer gritty hardcore action games, the new gamers that arised around the rise of the original PlayStation and PS2.
The Wii is more for those who enjoy playing the games casually, such as at parties. The Wii is also aimed at those who grew up with the NES, SNES and the other early Nintendo consoles, as a great many of the games on the Wii are remakes or throwbacks to some of Nintendo's oldest games.
The PSP is aimed at basically the same market as the PS3.
The DS and upcoming 3DS are/will be for the same audience as the Wii.
One final difference; X360 and PS3 are both very graphics, as well as blood and gore, oriented. This serves as a contrast to Nintendo's consoles, which are very much Gameplay-centric.
